2 Corinthians 5:18-20
18 “All things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ…”

A Born-again Believer in Jesus Christ has been reconciled to God through the finished work of the Cross and God has now given to each of us the ministry of reconciliation, as the scripture above states. What does this mean? Scripture declares we are Christ’s ambassadors. An ambassador is a senior diplomat who represents his/her nation in another nation. When Jesus, our Pattern Man, lived on earth, He moved among ungodly people as an ambassador for the Kingdom of God, and sin did not stick to Him. As ambassadors for Christ we have one function, which is to convey to people that God is real.

All Unbelievers are at enmity with God, (Ephesians 2:14-15), but as Christ’s ambassadors demonstrating the ministry of reconciliation, we convey that an enemy of God can be reconciled to Him and become a friend of God. Jesus instructed us to love our enemies, (Matthew 5:44). How can we connect with ungodly people if we do not mix with them?

Ambassadors have a function and place and are in need of great wisdom. Godly Wisdom is needed in order not to misrepresent the truth or try to “straighten people out” to correct their thinking. Remember that the wisdom of God is “….first pure, then peaceable, gentle and easily entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”James 3:17.

God knows how to “catch fish.” He uses men but not men’s methods. “It is to the glory of God to conceal a thing…” Proverbs 25:2. So often we are working towards enlightening a person when God will only reveal something to that person using His methods.

When we have God opportunities to befriend and help people, our lives can become a testimony to the Lord. Just being available can set something in motion in their lives. The greatest thing we can offer folk is the Presence of Christ. The aroma of Christ, (2Corinthians 2:15) attracts people to Him in a way that arguments and controversies never will.

Unbelievers do not have the truth. Jesus embodies ALL TRUTH and those who are searching for freedom and truth are attracted to Christ. We have the authority to request the Lord to move in a person’s life, to set something in motion to bring them to Christ to exchange the enmity with God to a relationship with Him to become the friend of God.

Some may wish they were more bold in sharing with Unbelievers. Note how Paul the Apostle, an educated man and eloquent speaker in his own strength, realized he needed God’s strength and wisdom to share the Gospel, and could not trust in his own natural abilities.

1 Corinthians 2: 1-5
1 “I came not to you with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring to you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”

Paul recognized his limitations in his natural abilities, but when he was guided and quickened by the Holy Spirit, God spoke through him. The wisdom of God is used for His purposes and glory. He will not release it to glorify man. A man has to learn “to hold” what God gives him for the glory of God. If man takes the credit, God will withdraw and withhold.

Paul declared that he did not come to preach “with enticing words,” but that, “…we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants, for Jesus’ sake,” 2 Corinthians 4:5. He considered himself a servant, for Jesus’ sake. The humility of a servant heart delights the Lord. Preaching is not with enticing words but a lifestyle demonstrated to the world and lived to the glory of God. Someone once said, “Preach the Gospel and, if necessary, use words.”

When we rest and abide in our God, He lives His life through us and demonstrates His Kingdom to the world. We are unconscious of our influence and that is a safe place!

Let us not be removed from the simplicity of the Gospel…..that we believe in Jesus and trust in His word!
