Am I aware of the truth in the following statement:
What a man believes rules him.
A man is ruled by his believing and acts accordingly. Test it. If I believe what God says regarding anything, I will follow His word and live in peace. If I constantly listen to the media from television, radio and the newspapers, believing everything they broadcast as all truth, I will live in fear and confusion. What I believe, rules my life, my thoughts and actions. That is why it is so important to be thoroughly grounded in the word of God, the finished work of Calvary and being fully committed to trust God whatever I experience in life. His keeping power enables me to stand firm in Jesus Christ, my foundation, in the storms of life.
My confidence and hope is in the Lord. He brings me to the altar where I commit to Him and can say in full assurance: “For which cause I also suffer these things, nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day”, 2 Timothy 1:12.
He is able…..indeed! But have I committed to Him? When I am rooted and grounded in Christ I will not be swayed by every news bulletin, or wind of doctrine that blows my way. Let God have the last word, only what He says is true.
This does not mean that I bury my head in the sand and not be aware what is going on in the world. My responsibility is to be guided by the Holy Spirit to what is true. He is the Spirit of truth and will only witness to such. If what I am listening to, or reading, disturbs my God given peace, then I must either question the source as truth, or take responsibility for allowing fear to control me, instead of trusting God to bring me through all that lies ahead.
Whilst there is no need to be constantly listening to news of gloom and doom, what I do hear needs to be seen through God’s perspective and not the world’s.
Deuteronomy 29:29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and our children, that we may do all the words of this law”.
There is much that goes on today in this world that we know nothing about. Deceitful men work behind the scenes, but nothing is hidden from the eyes of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father. I can have full confidence and trust in His omniscience and the fact that His kingdom rules over ALL, (Psalm 103:19).
The apostle Paul addressed an issue to the Corinthians which constantly arises today. 2 Corinthians 11:3 “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ”.
There is a SIMPLICITY in our walk with the Lord where we do not have to take on board all that comes from the media producing fear and control.
God does not want our wisdom, but can do without our ignorance.
There is only one source of truth – the Living God. He has sent His Holy Spirit to us, the heirs of salvation. He is the Holy Spirit of truth and through Him we have access to truth. He is our divine filter and as we listen, the Holy Spirit of truth will witness to our spirit to what is true. When we hear something that we have no witness to it’s truth, shelve it or bin it! As we daily walk in humility, submitting to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, He will lead us in to all truth. Herein lies our peace and rest in God’s love for me. My Father is in full control…..He knows my name, I am His child.
As the old song goes:
“He’s got the world in the palm of His hands,
The days I cannot see, have all been planned for me,
He’s got the world in the palm of His hands”.
Visualise that……then consider the greatness of our God!
