Colossians 2:9-10 speaking of Jesus “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power”.  I am complete in Him.  God made us incomplete, in order that we find our completeness in Christ.  I cannot add to the finished work of Calvary by works of righteousness.  Jesus paid the ultimate price at Calvary that we become the righteousness of God, abiding in Christ, the Vine, (John 15).

In Romans 8 we read how the old carnal nature is in discord with our new identity in Christ.  Verse 7 declares the carnal nature is “enmity against God”.  The Holy Spirit is our teacher, our Guide for our earthly journey.  Romans 8: 14 “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God”.

He who learns to sit still moves quickest when the Spirit prompts.

Do I respond when the Spirit prompts?…….or does the noise of who I am and what I want, drown out the “still, small voice”.

The world puts such value on position, but God looks at the heart and sees our motive for what we do.  God values humility, the nature of His Son.

If I am too big to be led, I am too little to lead.   Jesus calls us to follow Him, not get ahead of Him.  Imagine yourself sitting in the back seat of a car being chauffeur driven by Jesus, completely at rest in the knowledge of who He is and where He wants to take you.  However, how easy it is to become a back seat driver giving instructions to the omniscient One because we do not fully trust Him – “turn right here”, “You’ve taken a wrong turn!”, “Stop the car, I want to get out, I don’t like this way”.

When I choose my own way, I lose God’s way.  Have I stopped listening to Him and become that back seat driver?  In Matthew 18 Jesus called a little child and set him in the midst of His disciples.  He taught that unless we become as little children, humble ourselves in child like trust,  we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.  A child brought up in a healthy environment learns to be humble, to trust with child like faith in his parents and to forgive.

A lttle child finds security in the presence of his parents.  Jesus has promised never to leave, nor forsake us, therefore we can find our security in the knowledge that we can learn to live in His presence and find the promise of His rest as we trust and obey……..no more back seat driving!
