Worldly wisdom is seen as foolishness in God’s eyes, when men deny God’s existence and attempt to elevate their own reason and understanding above His. To those who are lost, the preaching of the Cross is foolishness, unless they respond and are spiritually awakened.
1 Corinthians 1: 18-19 “For the preaching of the Cross to them that perish is foolishness, but to us who are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent”.
Many people have tried to understand God, figure out His ways and thoughts, only to arrive at wrong conclusions. His word declares his pre-eminence: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts”.
Proverbs 3: 5-7 instructs regarding our own understanding of matters “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes. Fear the Lord and depart from evil”.
We have to remove the shoes of our understanding. When God first called Moses, the fire of a burning bush would not extinguish and Moses turned aside to try and understand the phenomenon. (Exodus 3: 1-6). God spoke to him and told him to remove his shoes as he was standing on holy ground. He had to “remove the shoes of his understanding”. If we are seeking the Lord in a matter we have no understanding of, if God is present we are on holy ground! ………We do not have to understand everything, but must learn to bow and trust our Father to work things out according to His plan. This is the path of finding His peace in the trial, not only when it has come to an end.
There is a God. You are not Him! Do not allow reason to ruin your life.
God is first and foremost God. He is not here to be understood, He exists as God to be bowed to. When we surrender our understanding, and bow before Him in humility and reverence for who He is, only then as we learn to trust Him do we discover incrementally the wonder of the fullness of His loving care of us. When we honour Him as God, He reveals the unfathomable depths of His love to us as our heavenly Father. In the sanctuary of His presence, we surrender our questions and find rest from our troubles and frustrations. Surrender – trust – rest. Let go and allow God to work things out in His way.
Philip, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ, asked Jesus to show them the Father, (John 14: 7-11). Jesus taught them that if they had seen Him, then they had seen the Father, as He was indwelt by all the fullness of God. The marvel of our birthright in Christ after salvation is that, we also, are indwelt by that same Deity, but in measure. “Christ in you, the hope of glory”. If we walk in humility and surrender with Jesus through each day, then there will be an increase of the measure of the fullness of God. Jesus Christ seeks to flow through vessels empty of themselves, in order that the life of God – living waters – has an expression, His expression and nature, to all we meet, in all we do, to the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has entered into the heart of man, the things that God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them unto us by His Spirit……”
