Philippians 2: 5-11
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man he humbled Himself and BECAME obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth:
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

This passage clearly states that Jesus Christ BECAME something that He was not. When He took upon Himself the form of a servant and found Himself in the likeness of men, He chose to BECOME obedient to His Father’s will, even His death on the Cross to redeem mankind. The greatest struggle of His earthly life and test of His obedience to His Father, took place in the Garden of Gethsemane prior to His crucifixion. Knowing the physical and spiritual agony of the Cross that lay before Him, He begged His Father, in turmoil and deep sorrow of soul, three times to “take this cup” from Him if possible, (Matthew 26: 38-46). Finally, Jesus chose His Father’s will over His own and BECAME obedient, even unto His death……and God highly exalted Him through His obedience and gave Him a name above every name! (Philip. 2:9)

Jesus BECAME obedient. Am I becoming? For 32 years Jesus learnt obedience through the things He yielded to in His life, choosing His Father’s will over His own, (Hebrews 5:8). Am I learning obedience to my earthly Guide, the Holy Spirit?

John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”

1 John 3:2 “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”

When we entered into our salvation at Calvary, our eternal security was sealed, but between that step and the end of our physical life on earth, is a lifetime of learning obedience to the Holy Spirit. In Christ, I am fully righteous now with His righteousness, but I am a work “in progress” in the hand of God. Every time I walk in the humility God has instructed me to, it triggers off the work and walk of obedience – the BECOMING process.

Only my Heavenly Father knows the timing of the end of my earthly life, until that day when He calls me to my heavenly home, He will lead my earthly passage. If I learn to yield in humility to His guidance, He will fulfill His divine destiny in me and produce the finished article of a vessel for His glory.
