What do you have to face today? Whether it is a challenge, routine, duty, pleasure, delight or difficulties, we may have a view that “this is my portion” to either endure, or enjoy, depending on the circumstance. As a Believer this is true, but not the whole truth. The word of God declares, Psalm 16:5, “The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup, thou maintainest my lot.” When I settle it and allow God to have the last word, (instead of my unruly heart), by faith I declare that the Lord is my portion in life. He is with me in my circumstances, lighting my footpath with His word, “a lamp to my feet” in direction.

When I settle it that the Lord is my portion, I begin to prove the truth that “…His kingdom rules over all”, Psalm 103:19. Our spiritual kingdom is not of this world. Just like Jesus’ earthly journey, we are IN the world but not OF it. I will be moved and shaken by circumstance if my eyes are not on the Lord, the ruler of them. In Christ I am not under my circumstance, but, in Him, my refuge and rock of sure foundation, I am over them. In this place, they will not dictate to me, I will declare to them: “The Lord is my portion!” With my eyes on the Lord, refusing “tree knowledge”, (Genesis 3), I view things from God’s perspective and operate in the assurance that He is in control of my “portion, inheritance and cup”, Psalm 16:5. He is the maintainer of “my lot”. As I rest in this truth I experience His priceless peace. When my ear is tuned to hear and obey God’s voice, the clamour of the other voices are silent when I settle my heart and set it to follow Him. As I follow His instruction, the fog of confusion disappears. Psalm 36:9 “….in thy light shall we see light”. As we walk in the light of His word, our path ahead is clearer and a transformation begins to take place in us.

Romans 12:1-2 “….present your bodies a living sacrifice…be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God.” The word of God declares, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he,” Proverbs 23:7. My spiritual heart is the seat of all my believing. Here I find the seat of my will that opposes Christ’s rulership. Here is the altar of daily surrender to the indwelling Christ in relationships and circumstances that my unruly heart wants to control and stand up for its rights. A Believer only has one right and that is to eat from the Tree of Life, the Lord Jesus Christ, (Revelation 22:14). When I operate in right believing from a Christ ruled heart, then I will live right. My mind is renewed, I shed the old thought patterns of wrong believing and pride, and the Lord transforms me into His image. What a trade in! I surrender my old, tattered garments and He gives me His robe of pure white. As the song goes: “A royal robe I don’t deserve”.

Very often we think we are waiting for God to move, when the truth is that God is saying, “It’s your move!” “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind..” Surrender to the Lord is the key. To Him you stand, or fall. Whichever, you are safe in His hands.
