Have you ever faced a situation, or person, and felt despair at your inability to offer a life giving word of encouragement or comfort?  Be encouraged, embrace your barrenness and take it to the Lord Jesus in prayer.  Recognise the profound truth in Bruce Lee’s quote: “The usefulness of the cup is in it’s emptiness”.  As we humbly wait on the Lord, a divine expectancy is birthed in us and He will impart of His fullness into our empty cup in His timing.  Timing is so important.  How many times in scripture do we read the words “at the set time”.  God is able to impart His word through us.  2 Timothy 4:2 exhorts us to be prepared to give a word “in season and out of season to correct, rebuke or encourage”.

God requires vessels empty of self.  He does not want to top up my half empty cup of self with His  Living Water.

God does most with least, much with little, and everything with nothing!  Are you prepared to be an empty vessel of self, a nothing for His glory?  John the Baptist declared of Jesus: “He must increase, but I must decrease”,  John 3:30.

2 Kings 4: 1-7 records the miracle God performed through the prophet, Elisha.  A distraught widow confided her dire plight to Elisha.  Her husband had died and his creditors were threatening to take her two sons into slavery as settlement for the debt.  Her only possession of value was a small pot of oil.  Elisha instructed her to find as many empty vessels as possible and fill them with the oil, even borrowing containers from neighbours.  God performed a miracle.  The oil kept flowing as long as she continued to bring empty vessels.  When she could find no more vessels to fill, the oil stopped flowing.  She was able to sell the oil and settle the debt to the creditors.

We have to see ourselves through God’s eyes.  He requires our emptyness in order that He may impart the resurrection life of His Son through us, to extend His kingdom for His glory alone.  He does not want to make me a better person, He wants to replace me with the life of Jesus.

When feeling overwhelmed by your inability and lack, embrace it.  This position of emptyness is your greatest asset for God to pour into you His life, power and anointing for His divine plans and purposes, for His glory…..at His set time.   The place of your barrenness is the place to bow and worship the One in whom all fullness dwells.  Here your worship pleases the heart of God.  As you worship you enter into a new dimension of His peace, presence and purpose and He births a divine expectancy within.

Father, make me sensitive to Your timing, Your touch, Your presence and Your direction to give those words in, and out, of season.  Your words are Spirit and life.  When they find fertile ground they create and will not return to You void.  Keep me expectant to find You in every situation and relationship with a pure heart.  Amen.

WORDS OF LIFE:  Isaiah 55: 10-11  “For as the rain comes down and the snow from heaven, and does not return but waters the earth , and causes it to bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater; so shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth.  It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it”.
