2 Timothy 1:12  “…..For I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day”.

There comes a time after we have done all the Lord requires of us, to commit certain matters into His safe hands and to trust Him with the timing and final results.  If we commit the matter to the Lord, He will work things out according to His plans, but if we do not commit, is He bound to “keep” it, according to above scripture?

Are we sometimes like the little terrier who buries his bone in the garden, then keeps on returning to dig it up making sure it is still there, then re-burying the thing?  The Lord Jesus has a safe pair of hands.  When I commit something to Him, He is more than able to work things out as I learn to trust Him.  His thoughts, ways and plans far exceed any of men’s.

These are dark times with the media, the internet and society full of fear and negativity.  It is imperative to put wrong information from these sources back where it came from and listen and believe the Voice of truth – the Holy Spirit.  God is the source of all truth.  He has delegated to His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the sole agent for divine truth.  The Holy Spirit is the Executor of the will of God to men, and in that role, He is the Spirit of truth and will only witness to such.

Jesus said: “When He, the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth…..”   John 16:13.  He is our Guide to direct us on our earthly journey.  When we hear truth, the Holy Spirit will witness to our spirit to believe it, embrace it and walk in it.  This involves refusing all the other voices not sourced in God which produce fear and confusion.  This is how we can test information received – by the Word of God and His Spirit.

God’s Word declares: “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of  power, of love and a sound mind”,  2 Timothy 1:7.

Regarding confusion:  “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace….”,  1 Corinthians 14:33.

So…..fear and confusion are not from God.  If I am entertaining either of these it is a warning that I have embraced wrong information that the Holy Spirit of truth is not witnessing to.  As I repent of taking notice of the wrong voices with cross messages seeking to control my life, God’s peace returns as I embrace and trust what He says.  Only what He says is true.  God requires us to learn His ways by having total dependency on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

What a man believes rules him.

Test the above statement.  Right believing produces right living.  Wrong believing produces wrong living with all its accompanying consequences.  Jesus said:  “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”,  Matthew 12:34.  The heart is the seat of man’s believing, that is why it is so important that I allow Christ to rule there.  In this position, what I think and speak will be sourced from Him and only produce life.

Romans 10:10 “For with the heart man believes unto righteousness…”.

Proverbs 23:7 declares of men:  “As he thinks in his heart, so is he”.

So, we have established that the function of the heart is to believe.  Am I believing truth or just following tradition, set patterns?  As a born again believer I have been given the Holy Spirit to whisper/engage/witness to my spirit what is truth.  Only as I apply that truth to my life do I make it mine and it will be established in the way I live.  If I refuse it then inconsistency is produced in my life and the truth I have received becomes darkness reflected in me.  Jesus warned:  “…..If the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”,   Matthew 6:23.

I need to know what to take on board and what to reject in these strange times.  Our first scripture earlier began with the words:  “For I am persuaded that He is able………”    Am I fully persuaded?  That is the question to ask myself.   Only as I submit to the Holy Spirit’s guidance and the Word of God will my heart be undivided and Christ ruled.

We do not need to fear dark times.  God is in full control and above all the politicians, scientists and viruses.  He is our Way-maker and Promise Keeper.  His word declares “The path of the just is as the shining light that shines more and more unto the perfect day.  The way of the wicked is as darkness.  They know not at what they stumble”,  Proverbs 4: 18-19.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”  Psalm 119:105.

Jesus, the Light of the world, has promised never to leave, nor forsake us.  As we submit to Him and be conformed to His image, (Ephesians 4), His light will guide our path and shine through to others.

The darkest time the world has ever experienced was at the crucifixion of the Son of God.  The devil thought he had won.  The disciples were forlorn and discouraged, not knowing that God was in full control.  At the set time, Jesus, in His resurrected body burst from the tomb and fulfilled God’s amazing plan of redemption for mankind.  Let us remind ourselves that in spite of darkest times, God is in full control.  He has plans that will not be thwarted or restrained.  Let us allow ourselves to be “fully persuaded” of this fact and get with His programme and purpose.

No more digging up the “buried bones” , checking God out!   God is most assuredly, indisputably, absolutely, able to do super abundantly above all we may ask or think, (Ephesians 3:20)

So….are you fully persuaded then that God is able!?
