A man worked in an engineering firm making parts for machinery. In the workshop was a trueing table. All the parts manufactured had to measure up exactly on the trueing table to the design specifications, in order for them to fit into the machinery and function correctly. God has provided us with a trueing table in the form of His beloved Son, Jesus Christ. He is our Pattern Man. He is the Door to the way, the truth and the life. Only through Him can we come to Father God, (John 14:6).

Many people are travelling the broad way in the pursuit of happiness. There is nothing evil in happiness but it is wrong to pursue it instead of giving the Lord His rightful, first place in a Believer’s life. Happiness is dependent on happenings. Whereas joy is a consequence of right choices and the hallmark of the presence of God in my innermost being. His joy is also the source of my strength: “…..for the joy of the Lord is your strength,” Nehemiah 8:10. Jesus is my “trueing table” for every circumstance and relationship in my daily walk. As I walk in humility and yield to Him, I no longer hunger to pursue happiness for I discover, (as David did), that His “goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life”, Psalm 23:6.

When I murmur, complain or operate in fear, then I have moved away from my “trueing table”, the Lord Jesus. This is the devil’s fertile ground and the foothold he seeks to sow his evil seed in my heart. Jesus destroyed the devil’s power at Calvary, Hebrews 2:14, so the only power he now has is a permitted power to deceive. Who does he deceive? Those who choose to walk on his territory of fear and complaining. When we throw a pity party he shows up as the star guest! We grant him the permission to operate in our lives again by opening the door. I am devil-proof when I walk in the light and truth. My wrong attitudes cause the breach in my covering where the devil gains a foothold. Don’t give the devil back the ground that Jesus took from him at Calvary.

Proverbs 23:23 instructs us: “Buy the truth and sell it not…” Truth has a price tag then. It is humility and surrender to the Lord’s will. Rejected truth is costly and only brings pain. Rejecting truth gives right of entry to the devil in my life. He hates truth and loves to operate in darkness, lies and fear. Don’t allow him to plant his evil seed in your heart. Walk in the light.

Jesus is the Truth. He demonstrated the love of the Father to mankind and taught us how to walk the Path of Life through His resurrection power, in transparency and light. 1 John 1:5 declares, “…..God is light and in him is no darkness at all.” When the light comes, darkness flees. The light dispels darkness. So it is with the devil. He cannot operate in the light and hates it. He flees! Light comes in revelation from the Holy Spirit of God. When I see something I must then take that revelation and allow the Lord to work it into my life till it becomes my lifestyle. It is the character of His Son being worked in me to bring the Father His good pleasure….and incidentally, my good pleasure! The Holy Spirit has an affinity to humility and truth because it is the very nature of Jesus Christ. When He sees it in operation in me, He comes alongside and pours in His divine oil, enabling me to be what He wants me to be, and to do what He designed me to do. Our Heavenly Father is “bringing many sons to glory”. Let us keep focused on our trueing table, our Lord Jesus Christ.
