The call of God on every believer’s life is no different one from another. His purpose is that our lives individually and co-operately glorify Him. It has always been God’s purpose to populate this planet with a people whose lives glorify Him!…For this to happen to those that He chooses, their lives must come in order, according to His plan and purpose, ordered by His thoughts and His ways and NOT our own!

His plan has never changed from Adam’s day to this. As we know, Adam chose to do things his own way, and the fall of humanity was set on course, but through out the generations God always had a remnant, men that chose to walk with Him and live a God-ordered life.

Many of us declare God is with me, and yes, it is true…He has declared ‘He will never leave us or forsake us’.

Gen: 28 v 15,20,21 reveals that God was with Jacob…

Gen: 15….And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all the places wither thou goest, and will bring thee again to this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

Verse 20 & 21….And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give bread to eat, and raiment to put on; So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the Lord be my God”.

God in His faithfulness still takes care of His unfaithful children, but the highest is NOT that God be with me…but that I, like Enoch, would walk with God…Gen: 5 v 24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not; for God took him…

Also Noah Gen: 6 v 8 & 9 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Verse 9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God….These men, in the midst of mess and darkness of a wicked generation walked with God. As we know God blessed Noah instructing him in the building of the ark and the saving of his family…

Gen: 9 begins again God’s ‘clean slate’ with humanity, with the instruction to multiply and replenish the earth…

Before long the degeneration of humanity set in again and in Gen: 11 v 1 – 9 we have the account of the tower of Babel… Verse 1 declares ‘And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech’…Verse 6 And the Lord said ” behold the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do”…

Three aims of the Babel agenda: Firstly, to reach Heaven on their own terms, by their own effort: Secondly, to make a name for themselves: Thirdly, to circumvent God’s original intent for humanity to disperse, not cluster: as recorded in verses 3 and 4…And they said one to another, Go to,let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth…

The Lord said in verse 6 “Behold the people is one”. The unity of being one was with each other and by their own effort to reach Heaven, to make a name for themselves, and prevent being scattered abroad upon the face of the earth.

In John 17, Jesus reveals in His prayer that the oneness with the Father, as He is one, is the pattern: verse 11…that they may be one, as we are. Verse 21…That they all may be one: as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. Verse 22…And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them: that they may be one, even as we are one. Verse 23…I in them, thou in me, that they may be perfect in one etc…

The measure of love I have for my brother or sister reveals the measure of love I have for God!

So we see one-ness is God’s plan for His people. But one-ness is different from unity. Unity is a bi-product of being one with the Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Incidentally I am united with my fellow man. This is the only way my life will ever be in order…Walking with God and fulfilling His purpose. The greater – loving the Father, fulfills the lesser – loving mankind!

But just as I think I have arrived at the answer for glorifying God and declaring how much I love Him, His word cuts through me and reveals my undoneness…1 John: 4 v 20 “For he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”

So, the challenge comes to us, purpose or permission? Is my life fulfilling God’s purpose, in His order, walking with Him, or is He permitting me in my choices to map and plan my own life?…. by my own thoughts and ways and asking Him to bless me as I request Him to walk with me!
